By OE MatchThe Porsche Carrera GT (Project Code 980) is a mid-engine sports car manufactured by German automaker Porsche from 2004 to 2006. Sports Car International ranked the Carrera GT as number one on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 2000s and number eight on its list of Top Sports Cars of All Time. In 2003, Popular Science magazine honored the Carrera GT with the "Best of What's New" award for its advanced technology and chassis development.
The Carrera GT's development traces back to the 911 GT1 and LMP1-98 racing cars. Following rule changes by the FIA and ACO in 1998, both designs were discontinued. At that time, Porsche had been planning a new Le Mans prototype for the 1999 season.
