The 997 succeeded the 996 in 2004, entering the market as the 2005 model year. While retaining the 996's fundamental profile, it refines its design with influences drawn from the 993, particularly in its detailing. Notably, the headlights return to the original bug-eye design, departing from the teardrop scheme of the 996. Inside, the interior undergoes a similar revision, maintaining strong connections to earlier 911 interiors while embracing a fresh and modern aesthetic.
Despite sharing less than a third of its parts with the outgoing 996, the 997 remains technically akin to its predecessor.
