The Porsche 991.1 marks the seventh iteration of the iconic Porsche 911 sports car, debuting at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor to the 997. Representing a significant leap forward, the 991 introduced an entirely new platform, only the third since the original 911's inception in 1963 (following the 996 in 1999).
Production of the 991.1 generation concluded on December 20, 2019, with a total of 233,540 units manufactured. Compared to its predecessor, the 997, the 991 boasts slightly larger dimensions, with the wheelbase expanded by 100 mm (3.9 in) to 2,450 mm (96.5 in) and the overall length increased by 70 mm (2.8 in) to 4,490 mm (176.8 in).
One of the key advancements in the 991.1 was the development of a new transaxle, facilitating the relocation of the rear wheels by 76 mm (3 in) backward in relation to the engine position. This strategic adjustment significantly enhances the car's weight distribution and cornering capabilities, further solidifying its performance pedigree.
