At the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from June 30th to July 2nd, 2017, Porsche unveiled its fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 ever, the rear-engine, rear-wheel drive 991.2 GT2 RS.
With a Nurburgring lap time of 6 minutes 47.3 seconds, it surpassed the Lamborghini Huracán Performante by 5 seconds and Porsche’s own 918 Spyder by 10 seconds, solidifying its place as the ultimate 911. Powered by a 3.8ltr flat-six twin-turbocharged engine delivering 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, the GT2 RS achieves peak torque from 2,250 to 4,000 rpm.
Equipped with a reinforced 7-speed PDK transmission, it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph. The chassis enhancements, including adjustable suspension and ball joints for improved rigidity, ensure exceptional handling and road holding.
With weight-saving measures like carbon fiber components and optional packages, the GT2 RS weighs in at 3,241lbs, making it 286lbs lighter than the turbo S. Aerodynamically optimized with features like a fixed carbon rear wing and NACA air intakes, it strikes a balance between speed and agility, setting new standards for performance on both track and road.
