The latest iteration of the Carrera Cabriolet maintains its six-cylinder, horizontally positioned engine but with a reduced displacement to 3.0ltr and the addition of twin turbos. This engine configuration is now shared with the Carrera S, replacing the previous 3.8-liter flat-six. The result? A boost of 20 hp and approximately 40 lb-ft of torque in the 991.2 Carrera 2 Cabriolet compared to its predecessor, with torque available from a low 1,700 rpm.
This turbocharged setup translates into noticeable performance gains when behind the wheel. Gone is the delay in acceleration as the engine revs up—now, there's an immediate surge of torque the moment you step on the throttle. The base 911 provides ample power for daily driving and emerges as a compelling choice within the 991.2 lineup.
Externally, the changes are more evolutionary than revolutionary. Visual refinements include new headlights with four-point daytime running lights, door handles without recess covers, a redesigned rear lid with vertical louvres, and updated rear lights with distinctive four-point brake lights. Inside, the Carrera Cabriolet receives the same updates as the rest of the range, notably the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system.
The upgraded PCM system features a seven-inch multi-touch display for intuitive operation, akin to using a smartphone. It supports user inputs by handwriting and connectivity options for mobile phones via Wi-Fi, including battery-saving charging and enhanced reception. Additional features include real-time traffic information for improved navigation, integration of Google Earth and Streetview for better orientation, and Porsche Car Connect and Porsche Connect app integration for remote vehicle functions and music streaming services.
