About 964 (911) TURBO 3.3L 1991-93

Porsche debuted the 964 Turbo model in March 1990 as the successor to the 930. Due to time constraints, they opted to utilize the 3.3ltr engine from the 930 rather than develop a turbocharged version of the 3.6ltr M64 engine. However, the engine underwent minor revisions to enhance smoothness, reduce turbo lag, and increase power output, culminating in a total of 320PS (235kW; 316hp) at 5,750 rpm. A production run of 3,660 units of the 964 Turbo was completed.

In 1992, Porsche introduced the 3.3-liter Turbo S Leichtbau (light build) model, initially planning to produce 25-50 units, later increased to 80. This variant of the standard Turbo was enhanced to deliver 381PS (280kW; 376hp) through modifications such as larger injectors, increased boost, aggressive camshafts, and a stripped-down interior with limited amenities. The Turbo S was positioned as one of the fastest cars available, boasting lowered suspension by 40 mm, a front strut brace, and manual steering for optimized performance.

The Leichtbau designation was achieved by removing under-body protection, soundproofing, air conditioning, power steering, and rear seats. Further weight savings were achieved through thinner glass, aluminum doors, a carbon-fiber luggage compartment, and thinner carpets, resulting in a reduction of 180kg compared to the standard Turbo. Production of the Turbo S Leichtbau commenced in July 1992 for the 1993 model year, with some sources suggesting that Porsche ultimately produced six more units than the initially planned 80.
