As the production of the 964 neared its end, a special limited-edition version emerged in Europe known as the Carrera 3.8 RS. This model boasted the wider Turbo body and a robust 300 PS (221 kW; 296 bhp) 3.8-liter iteration of the M64 engine. The engine underwent a 2 mm bore increase, bringing its total displacement to 3,746 cc. Additionally, a more potent competition version of this engine, named the 3.8 RSR, was also made available. Notably, only 11 of the 3.8 spec cars were outfitted with the Clubsport package.
The Carrera 3.8 RS, sported Turbo-style bodywork and a larger fixed whale tail instead of the electronically operated rear spoiler.
